RUGBY IN SCHOOLS.
FAST, OPEN EXHIBITION.
Although determined tackling and poor hooking militated against sustained passing movements, the King's-Alourit Albert match on Saturday produced fast, open football. Tito garno was marked by accurate line kicking among the backs and good voi'k in the loose by the forwards. Tho Mount Albert pack was superior in the set scrums, but neither side hooked cleanly. For King's, Caughey was outstanding both for liis accurate line-kicking and determined running. Neither of the wings wore given many opportunities. Jackson exploited the reverse pass to advantage, v.hile Richardson showed a fine turn of speed when tho bull came his way. The mside backs shone in defence, but their handling was erratic. ISehind a pack which, in the closing stages of the garno did not obtain its share of the ball, Maciwdoe was called upon to go down on tho b,dl often. At fullback Coles was responsible for some good kivking, but his field iu K was uncertain. The forwards were an even pack, with Heath and MacCarthv always prominent. iipence was tho mainstay of the Mount Albert team, both on attack and defence, lie gave an exhibition of heady fooLball v.hich it is a delight to see. On the wing lloran was responsible for determined, straight running which stood his side in ■good stead. Clarke was at all times safe, r.ut he did not get many opportunities. A tendency to hold oti too long by thu live-eighths spoilt many promising movements. although Jones was successful with I'liu cut-in on occasions. Fletcher's performance at fullback was almost faultless. ISriggs got the ball away from the scrum nicely, while at rover Reid was outstanding. He is a player v.ho would do well in the threoquarter line. Of the forwards Lange was seen to best advantage. The combination arid cleverness of the Auckland Grammar team completely non-i plussed Sacred Heart on Saturday, the latter suffering defeat by 45 points to 0. 'Uhe .King's-Sacred Heart match which ->v;vs set down for Saturday will be placed &\> Mangere to-day.
