OBITUARY.

MRS. SARAH SYMMANS,

Tho death has occurred at New Plymouth of Mrs. Sarah Symmans at the ago of 93. Mrs. Symmans was born at Bath, England, and arrived with her husband at Lvttelton in the sailing ship British Empire about tho year 1862. Living in Canterbury until 1883 Mrs. Symmans, with her husband and family, settled in South Taranaki, taking up a farm on Rama Road, Otakcho, which at that time was a bnsh track. She endured the hardships connected with pioneering and rode on horseback over bush tracks and mud roads attending the sick. Mrs. Symmans is survived by three sons, Mr. Thomas Symmans, of Whangarei, Mr. William Symmans, of Otakeho, and Mr. Joseph Symmans, of Eltham. There are 18 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

MR. JOHN McKINNON

HAMILTON, Tuesday

The death has occurred of Mr. John McKinnon, of Hamilton, aged 52. Mr. McIvinnon was born in Glasgow and came to New Zealand 37 years ago with his mother, two brothers and a sister. He lived for 11 years in Wellington, whero ho was engaged in tho building trade, and 26 years ago ho camo to Hamilton and carried on business as a builder until a year ago. when he became ill. Mr. McKinnon had been a -member of tho Hamilton Borough Council for a number of years, and was for a time deputymayor. He was a member of the Hamilton Licensing Bench and the Hamilton Domain Board, and had been for some years chairman of tho Hamilton Fire Board. He was also a member of the Alexandra Masonic Lodge. Ho was recently made a justice of tho peace. Mr. McKinnon's mother, who lives at Kohimarama, survives him, and an elder brother, Mr. C. McKinnon, is a sub-editor on tho Dominion. Ho leaves & widow, a daughter and two sons.
