CHARGE OF FRAUD.
MAN AT BOARDING HOUSE.
"NO POSSIBILITY OF PAYING."
" This man is out of work and thero is no possibility of his paying," said SubInspector Shanahan when a labourer, Douglas James Sampson, aged 25, was charged in the Police Court yesterday with obtaining credit by fraud by incurring a debt of 15s. Tho sum represented board which accused had not paid from last Thursday until Monday, when lie was arrested.
Tho sub-inspector said that on Thursday accused went to a boardinghonso at 41, Park Road, owned by Mrs. Eileen McKeiuion, and obtained board, stating ho was employed on tho new railway station. In consequence of what she heard, Mrs. McKennon becamo suspicious and rang up tho station, being told that accused was not working tliore. She approached accused, who offered to pay for his board with a cheque. Accused had a list of provious convictions, having been jentenced for breaking and entering and theft on three occasions, for forgery twice and for theft.
" 110 has boon in gaol often enough; I suppose it does not matter now," reraaiked the magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt, who imposed a fino of £5 and fixed default at seven days' imprisonment.
