NORTH AUCKLAND FARMERS
TOUR OF NORTH ISLAND.
RUAKURA FARM VISITED
[BY TELEGRAPH- —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON, Tuesday.
The party of about 40 North Auckland farmers, who are at present engaged on a tour by rail of the North Island, arrived at Frankton Junction by the daylight limited express from Auckland shortly after 10 o'clock this morning. They were met and welcomed at ihe station by Mr. J. Gilbert, on behalf of the Waikato branch of the Farmers' Union.
The party was then taken on a tour of inspection through the butter and casein factory of the New Zealand Cooperative Dairy Company at Frankton. In extending a welcome to the visitors, Mr. C. J. Parlane, general manager, said the company was the biggest co-operative dairy concern in the world. The visitors were shown over the Ruakura State farm this afternoon by the manager, Mr. H. Munro. They were greatly impressed with the splendid quality and condition of the stock, and the wealth of grass pasture that was still available, in spite of the recent cold weather.
Mr. Munro infoimed the visitors that 34 of the cows had produced an average of 5241b. of butter-fat under semi-official test, and that 18 others promised to equal this production this season. He pointed (o a Jersey cow which had put up a NewZealand record for milk production, and to a Berkshire boar which had been described by experts as the best pig in New Zealand.
A tour of the Waikato will be undertaken to-morrow, and Morrinsville, Cambridge, Matangi and To Awamutu will be visited.
