POSITION OF FLAXMILLS.
FUND FOR STABILISATION.
GOVERNMENT OFFER REFUSED.
[BY TELEGBAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
TAURANCtA. Wednesday,
As the outcome of a deputation which waited on (he Minister of Lands, the Hon. G. W. Forbes, in Auckland recently, the New Zealand Flax millers' Association was informed that the Government could not undertake the formation of a stabilisation fund, but was prepared to lend the association £4OOO, bearing interest at 5 per cent, to enable the millers to establish their own stabilisation fund.
This offer has been carefully considered by the millers, who find it impossible to take the action suggested by the Government.
It was stated to-day that all the mills in the Tauranga district will be closed next week, and this will mean loss of employment by about 80 men.
