BEEF SELLS AT LATE RATES.

KEENER DEMAND FOR MUTTON

Beef cattle were penned in average numbers at the weekly Westfielcl fat stock sale yesterday. The quality was well up (o standard. Tho demand for choice and prime quality beef was keen. Extra choice ox sold unchanged at 37s per 1001b., and prices generally were steady at last week's levels.

There was an average yarding of sheep, most of which were plain and unfinished. Prime mutton was in keen demand and prices showed a small increase on last week's rates. Lambs were also penned in average numbers and sold readily at late rates. Calves camo forward in loss than average numbers, competition was keen and values advanced considerably on last week's quotations. Thero was a full yarding of fat pigs, including some particularly good quality baconers, but store pigs were scarce. Prices were about on a par with current rates. Thero was an average yarding of all classes of stock at. the Johnsonville sale today. The cattle yarding comprised mostly medium-weight bullocks with a few pens of heavier sorts. The quality was not up to the usual standard. Prices for all classes of (stock showed a , decline on last week's rntes, bullocks being down fully 10s, wethers Is, and ewes Is Gd per head. Only a small consignment of lambs came forward and met with a keen demand at last week's rates. RISE IN SHEEP PRICES.

The features of tho weekly market at Addington to-day were increases in values for fat lambs, fat sheep and store sheep. Fat cattle also sold well, but with little alteration in values. Store Sheep.—There was a. very small entry and it met with a very free inquiry. Forward lambs, for which export buyers competed, advanced up to 3s a head on late rates. Medium sorts recorded a rise of 2s a head and cull lambs were better by Xs a head. Adult sheep also sold at advanced rates, the rise in the case of the better-class of ewes being Is and lip to '2s a head on last week's rates. Forward wothers sold better than last week by 2s a head. Values were: Mediifin ewe lambs, Us to 13s Sd; cull ewe lambs, to 7s Gel; extra good wether lambs, 13s to 15s 2d: ordiuary wether lambs, ts Cd to lis; cull wether lambs, to ss; good 4, 6 and S-tooth three-quarterbred ewes, IGb to 19s; ordinary 8-tooth half-bred ewes, 12s Id to 13s 9d; ordinary 2-tooth halfbred ewes, 13s 2d to 17s 9d; failing-mouth halfbred ewes, 3s 9d to 10s; good 4 and G-tooth halfbred wethers, IGs to 18s; medium 1 and C-tooth halfbred wethers. 12s to 15s. Eighteen months to two-year-old steers made up to £5 8e Gd and cows sold up to £5 15s. Potting bulls sold at late rales, top price for tlicm being £7 lis. Dairy Cattle.—There wni an entry of s(> head of very mixed quality. Outstanding sorts attracted keen but it was n dull sale for the. remainder. Values were: Best second and third ealvers, to £IG 10s; good, £l3 to £l4 10s; others. £3 to £l2; good heifers, £l2 to £11; medium, £9 10s to £11: others, £5 15s to £B. Fat Pigs.—There was a small entry oE porkers, and heavy sorts sold at slightly advanced rates, with the remainder on a par with last week. . Bacon values remained firm.
