FIRMER MARKET FOR BANKS

A firmer market existed for brink shai c-s on the Auckland Stock Lxchange jest'?iday. Business was not quite tip to the normal volume, but tho general tono of the market was stronger. 'lno gilt-edged section was firm and offers covered a wido ranges. Inscribed Stock, 1932, per cent., were done unchanged at £9B 15s. . , . An advance of 6s was registered in banks by Nationals of Australasia, which had sale at £ls 2s. The last transaction in Auckland took place early last week. English, Scottish and Australians also moved favourably and were taken 6d firmer at £6 2s 6d, while New South Wales at £39 6s were Is dearer. Tlisy were also done on the Sydnoy register at £39 ss. New Zcalands hardly maintained the improvement shown on tho previous day and were secured 3d cheaper at 50s 9d. Steady inquiry was maintained for most insurance issue, but requirements remained unsatisfied. In coals Grey Valleys were quoted, ex div., 3d lower at 26s 3d without attracting attention. Auckland Gas were keenly sought and after a current-price sale at 24s Id were done again at 24s 3d, the highest level they havo touched since prior to tho payment of tho dividend at tho end of January.

Interest in shipping was practically unaltered. Northerns wero sought firmer at, 13s lid. In broworios Tooth's recorded an advance of 9d with a transaction at 34s 9d. Offers were a shade firmer in several instances in general investments and business was restricted. Farmers' Tradings wcro turned over at tho current prico, 8s 9d, and Kempfhorrie-Prossers were dono 6d cheaper at 63s 4d. .Mining investments wero quiet. Mount Lyclls wcro inquired for 2d easier at 213s 4d.
