DEATH UNDER ANAESTHETIC
VERDICT OF HEART FAILURE.
A verdict that death was duo to heart failure was returned by tho coroner, Mr. F. K.. Hunt, S.M., yesterday morning at an inquest into tho death of Miss Noelono Mary Rowett Heerdegan, aged 19, who died at tho Auckland Hospital on Tuesday during an operation. Frederick Heerdegan, a farmer, of Dargavillo, fathei of the deceased, said that his daughter lived at homo. She had been
suffering from goitre for about 12 months. Sho was sent to Auckland from the Northern Wairoa Hospital and arrived on Saturday. Apart from tho goitre, her health was good.
Dr. 11. L. Gould, assistant-medical superintendent at the Auckland Hospital, said that deceased was admitted to tho hospital on Saturday Her heart was apparently normal when she was examined on Punrlay and aga'ii on Monday. The causo of death was heart failure while under an anaesthetic. Last year over 7000 anaesthetics were administered at the hos pital and thoro were no deaths.
