EFFECT IN AUSTRALIA. MR. BAVIN'S DENUNCIATION. SYDNEY, May It, The Premier of New South Wales, Mr. ; T. R. Bavin, in the Legislative Assembly to-day, said the 44-hour week had proved an unmitigated disaster to the people it was intended to benefit. In moving tho second reading of the Indust/rial Arbitration Amendment Bill Mr. Bavin said a dissolution of ment on this issue would involve a delay of several months, and in the face of the critical economic and industrial conditions which prevailed, tho Government did not feel justified in taking a course which would involve postponing any effective relief for that period. New South Wales was faced with iiu dustrial conditions which were unprecedented in its history. Tho vote on tho second reading of the bill will be taken this evening.
