JOURNEY OF 1700 MILES. FRENCHMAN CLAIMS RECORD. RIO DE JANEIRO, May 13. M. Jean Mermoz, who flew with a Paris mail to Port Natal, Brazil, from St. Louis, Senegal, when ho landed at Port Natal, completed a flight of about 1700 miles, which took 21 hours 12 minutes. It is understood that a claim will be lodged with tho International Aeronautical Federation for a record. The first part of the journey from St. Louis was easy, but the airman sent a wireless message saying that when half way across tho cabin of the aeroplane was nearly filled with rain during a storm through which he flew.
