[by telegraph.—own correspondent.] WHAKATANE, Wednesday. The third Bay of Plenty Winter Show was opened this afternoon in tlio presenco of a large gathering of people. The entries totalled 1700, a record. Iho show was officially opened by Mr. C. E. Macmillan, M.P., and addresses wcro given by the Hon. J. B. Gow and Mr. W. licit!, chairman of tlio County Council, who congratulated iho promoters on the fine displays. There was a wonderful display of root crops, and the judges considered the turnips and mangels and pumpkins to he among the best they had seen. Tho horticultural display was also particularly good. The show will remain open until Saturday evening.
