RAIN IN AUSTRALIA.
GREAT VALUE TO HARVEST.
DANGER FROM RESERVOIR,
SYDNEY, May 13
All parts of the Commonwealth have benefited from rain which has broken the prolonged dry spells in many districts. The value to the crops is beyond estimation. This year's wheat harvest has been given an excellent start. • A message from Brisbane says fine weather prevails over the south coast, and the flooded rivers and creeks are subsiding rapidly. Most of the submerged bridges have been uncovered and normal traffic is expected to be resumed tomorrow.
A telegram from Melbourne says that following upon heavy rain the water has risen alarmingly in the Inglewood reservoir, and cracks have appeared in the retaining wall. The spillways are being blasted to reduce the level by seven feet.
Thousands of" tons of water are still pouring in, and the residents of Inglewood are moving from the danger area.
