Tho by-election for the Cairns seat, which was rendered vacant by the resignation of the former Premier, Mr. William McCormack, resulted as follows: Mr. O'Keefe (Labour) . . 4,603 Mr. Hives (Nationalist) . . 2,736 Labour majority. . .■. 1,067
