LADIES' CAR ON TRAINS.
Sir—After having travelled in the special ladies' car attached to the ManTrunk running between Auckland and Wellington, and compared its comfort and convenience with the ordinary car, it is difficult to understand why it is so poorly patronised. Ladies will crowd into other carriages while the special goes empty. Some few will say they are afraid of being disturbed by babies, but as a frequent traveller for the last 10 years, I can honestly say I have never had my night disturbed by a baby yet, and now have a much better rest than in the days when one had to travel in the mixed cai with a continuously disturbing through traffic. 1 wonder if it is igrjorance of the existence of the special that accounts foi the lack of patronage. I know that many times when I have drawn the attention of ladies to the big advantage of travelling in the special car, I have been astonished at t'lie number who either have not thought of it, or did not know of it. Often, at the end of a, journey I have been thanked for drawing their attention lo it. For ladies or girls travelling alone it is a wonderful convenience. A friendly attendant prevents any loneliness, and she is ever ready to tend the wants of passengers. There is a whisper that the poor patronage will result in this car being taken off. If this happens it will bo a blow to those women who realise and appreciate what the Railway Department is doing for them. I hope women travellers will wake up and not lose this great privilege on the Main Trunk line. Appreciative.
