MATCHES AT WALKER PARK.

UNIVERSITY A UNDEFEATED

Another day of beautiful weather favoured the Auckland Hockey Association for its second round of matches on Saturday. All the senior panics were played on the .association's two grounds at Walker Park, Point Chevalier. The old rivals, Somerville and St. Luke's, showed good hockey in a match which ended, as their meetings olten have of late, in a draw. Mount Eden made its first appearance of the season, and in a somewhat vngge.d game scored a victory o\et Wesley l>v 2 goals to 0. OLD RIVALS DRAW

The meeting between Somerville and St. Luke's provided an excellent contest, and the teams were as evenly matched as tl.o final scores indicate. St. Lukes v.-ent through to the circlo from the bully-oil, and a reverse shot by Burnett was blockcJ. ■\ free hit took the prcssuro from Somerville. and Seccombe put the ball into the St Luke's circle. A. Williams helped to clear, and Somerville gave a corner, but Smith stopped the shot that came from it. Wilkie was called on to save a little later, but Taylor showed up in an nttack that put St. Luke's in danger. Seccombo had a shot from a corner, but Hanna saved, and a free hit paved the way for St. Lukes to attack again. C. Watts and Seccombe led Somerville back, and Watts just fallecl to score from a pass from Seccombe. Ihe Somerville forwards kept close about 1110 circle, and Taylor seized a chance to open the score. Grace helped to take play back 10 Somerville territory, but Smith and Gardner blocked the way. Ihe Giles brothers and Brown made a good run, but could not find a way through beforo the interval, when the score was:—Somerville. 1; St. Luke's. 0. , Somerville took up the attack after changing round, and Sehneideman was in a likelv position when lie was caught off-side. Somerville failed to profit by a corner, and T. Giles led tho St. Luke's forwards back to the attack. A centring shot of his was followed by close play in the circle, which, however, was resultless. After C, Watts had missed a chance Seccombo sent in a timely centre, which Sehneideman shot into the net. St. Luke's rallied, and Robertson scored with a shot from a corner hit. A counter-attack by Somerville faded away and Wilkie was called on to stop a shot from Grace. The attack 011 the Somerville goal was continued until Burnett brought tho scores even with a shot from a pass that came' to him in the goalmouth. St. Luke's continued to make most of the play until time was called shortly afterwards, with the scores:—Somerville. 2; bt. Luke's, 2.

STUDENT TEAMS MEET,

Tho University Whippets put their tcobest into the match against University A. and for a considerable time had decidedly the better of the game. The Whippets mauo an early advance along tho right wing, and held the A team on the defensive for some time. A corner in their favour did not help the Whippets, but two of their forwards got offside and the free hit changed the scene of action. Whippets returned to tbe attack, but the A team regained ground by line play. The Whippets were not to be denied, and Adams, who had been doing valuable work, got in two good phots in quick succession, but Crawley dealt with them safely. The A forwards now began to find a little combination and carried play to tlie Whippets - circle. Whippets yielded a collier and a sharp shot from it by Raddiile was well stopped by Gurney. Tho A team wa3 again pushed back. Lamb and Adams doing most of the work in tho Whippets vigorous forward line. W hen the A team made another sortie Seelen hat, rv shot wliivU Leonard stopped. Mlison checked a forward rush with n timely hit. but twice Hio Whippets reached the circle A combined move among thf A forwards carried them to the Whippets' circle, where a keen struggle took place until Chambers cleared with a powerful hit. Seelen led i 1 n attack which petered out when Cnambers found the line. Kadcliffe got in a splendid shot from a corner hit, but Leonard stopped and turned it aside. Long passing was mdulged in for a time in midfield. Then flay got possession u.nd dribbled right through to score unaided. The Whippets responded gamely, and Crawley came out to defend with his feet when Ross and Dunne were in scoring position. Brown cut in and broke up a promising movement that A. S. Broun bad iiist started. Leonard saved moro than once when tho A forwards pressed strongly. MOUNT. EDEN V. WESLEY

Mount Eden proved quite equal to tho task of holding Wesley in a game that always keenly contested. Mount Eden quicKly opened up an attack, but Wesley worked back down the lino. A "speculator" by Hedges set his forwards moving, out they did not get beyond the twenty-live. The two .burtons and A. ii. Cnappell, combining nicely, gained a lot of ground in u concerted rush. Ash was prominent in a Mount Eden advance, but on reaching the circle ho threw away hi 3 chance with a wild smash. Mount Eden continued to hold the advantage, and was granted two corners in quick succession Mainland brok<i up tevcral likely advances by the Wesiey forwards. Roberts took play well down the line, but lost possession before centring. A. B. Burton got offside when near the Mount Eden circle, and from the resulting free-hit Fletcher went through to scoie The two Burtons and A. B. THAMES-lIAURAKI CLUBS.

The Tham.es-Hauraki Hockey Association held its nnnu\' meeting at the week-end. The report referred to tho visit of tlio Australian team to Thames and stated that the Konnarahi team was successful for the second time in winning the Gago Brown Cup. Tho mnttor of grounds had been a source of considerable anxiety, but a scheme was to be discussed which, it was hoped, -would obviate further trouble on that score. Tho balance-sheet showed a credit of over £i)o. The election of officers resulted:—Patron, Mr. J. G. Miller: president, Mr. L. Crawford Watson; tecrotary, Mr. G. McLeod; treasurer, Mr. P. Jensen; executive, Messrs. P. Jensen, J. Cartwright, T. Field, R. ler. W. Aldis, B. Miller, L. Crawford Watson and G. McLeod. It was unanimously _ decided to havo a sole selector, IHe appointment to be made by the executive. The opening of tho season was fixed for May 2-1, when a five-a-side tournament will bo played. It was decided to reafliliate with the Auckland Association and to notify the intention to challenge for tho Whito Horse Cup.
