PRODUCTION FOR THE YEAR.
SUBSTANTIAL INCREASE.
DETAILS OF SHIPMENTS
A return showing tho quantity of kauri gum received at Auckland from tho gum fioldp for the year ended March 31, and tho export figures over tho same period, was received at tho last meeting of (he Kauri Gum Control Board.
Tho gum received from tho fields amounted to 4620 tons, an increase of 816 tons over last year's total. Tho largest monthly quantity was received in March, when 563 tons were sent into the store, and the smallest was the December total, which amounted to only 260 tons. For the period ended March 31, 1929, there was a total of 3812 tons, and a total of 3912 tons for the similar period in 1928. During the year 4941 tons of gum was exported, to a total value of £264,452, showing an increase of 375 tons 011 tho. period ended March 31, 1929, when 4566 tons were exported. The greatest amount was exported to the United Kingdom, which received 2425 tons, valued at £117,677, while the United States accounted for 1967 tons, valued at £127,723. A total of 549 tons was sent to Germany, Canada, Australia, Belgium, France, Japan and the Netherlands. In the previous year the United States imported 2337 tons, and the United Kingdom 1504, of tho total of 4565 tons.
Arrangements wero concluded by tho board to send Mr. J. Pearson Ward to America to study the question of the use of kauri gum in various industries, and particularly in regard to the clean chip products.
