ROAD BOARD ELECTIONS.
MOUNT WELLINGTON AREA. VOTING TO TAKE PLACE TO-DAY. The election of members of road boards throughout New Zealand caused by certain members retiring in rotation in accordance with the Road Boards Act, 1908, and the Local Elections and Tolls Act, 1925, will be held this week. No election was necessary for the Mount, Roskill Road Board, as only the required number of nominations was received.. In the case of the Ostend Road Board all the seven members retired automatically this year, and an election will be held for the whole board. The election of three members of the Mount Wellington Road Board will bo held to-day. There are five candidates, Messrs. W. Golhiu, J. Wood nnd N. Walters (retired members) and Messrs. J. W. I-locham and R. M. MeCtilloch. Polling will be conducted between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. at the following booths Samuel Vaiie and Sons' Buildings, Queen Street; the Mount Wellington Road Board's office, and J. Gillies' garage. Mount Wellington. The election of the Ostend Road Board will take place to-nlorrow. The 11 candidates are: Messrs. L, Arnoldson, F. H. Brown, T. W. Finer, E. Griffiths, G. R. McGrevy, 11. W. Williams (retired members). A. E. Adams, J. Edgar, W. G. Hancock, W. J. Hill and 11. Richardson. The booths are at the Ostend Road Board's office in Shortland Street, and at Mercer's Hall, Putiki, Waihcko Island. Three members of the Panmure Town Board will be elected on Thursday. There are six nominations, Messrs. J. Allen, W. G. Brown, and W. Malo'ne (retired members), A. R. Abbott, J. F. Prince and G. Turton. Tho booth will be at Dyer's Hall, Panmure. PROGRESS AT OSTEND. THE SYSTEM OF RATING. The annual meeting of ratepayers of tho Ostend Road District was held last evening. Tho chairman, Mr. F. 11. Brown, said the report showed that the year had been one of satisfactory progress. Building permits had been issued during tho year for 19 buildings, valued at £1075. The system of rating on unimproved values was disliked by section-holders, but favoured by householders. The accounts showed that £472 was spent on tho roads lust year and the public debt now stood at £3277.
