TRAINING AT TRENTHAM;

NELSON AND HAWERA HORSES.

Horses engaged at ilie Nelson and Hawera meetings tin's week' were given routine work on the (rraas at Trerrtham on Saturday. Royal Gamo and Malayan ran half a niilo in 52Js. Roi do Vul and Jadorino (a maiden candidate from A. Goodman's atablo by Solferino from Jadu), ran a similar journey in 535. Miss Hansom and Hystride galloped a solid six furlongs. A 'number of others did useful work, but. were not timed. The Nelson team leaves to,-morrow night. A Goodman takes Black Mint. Dainty "Ways and Spearset; E. Murtagh, Arikinui; C. Pritchard, Tauru Lad; J. McLaughlin, Ex Dono and Tourist; and H. Kingan, Roi do YaL B. Burgess is taking Spearmiss and Lady Gen from Masterton to go by the samo steamer. Diana's Lad (A. Jenkins) was schooled over eight fences in the centre of the course. Ho gavo a first-class display over the bigger obstacles. H. B. Lorigan will take hhn to Hawcra for the hack steeplechases at the Egmont meeting. Matu was given pace work on the flat by his trainer, J. Ayres. MaCu looks very bright, but not so forward as lie wos at this period last year. He,- too, is to go to Hawera for the Egmont Steeplechase. He was schooled on Friday. The Australian jumper Conjuror IT, was out doing pace work. He is a fine, free goer and good cut of a horse. He has been schooled, at Trcnt-hnm, but , did not impress. However, if lie? does not prove useful this winter his looks belie him. Duellona has been thrown out of work, having developed a splint on her hitherto sound foreleg after racing at Ellerslio at Easter. J. McLaughlin is also having trouble with Yalrewa, due to the same complaint.

S. J. Reid really has only Crash in active work, and he .may. be raced at Otaki. Historic and Panther are being given easy tasks on alternate days, with a run in the paddock between. Lineage is out of commission altogether. Staghunter was, noticed doing solid work. He is coming on in good style, and all being well will make hia reappearance at the Otaki meeting.

TROUBLE OVER GREGALACH.

PLACED WITH NEW TRAINER. Last year's Liverpool Grand National winner, Gregalach, provided a mild sensation just prior to the mail leaving England. He registered an inglorious performance at Hurst Park about a fortnight before the Grand' National was run this year,' and finished a long last.

Mr. Gemmell, whose wife owns Gregalach, was suspicious that tho horso had been tampered with, and decided upon a thorough examination by a veterinary surgeon. Thero were all kinds of rumoiu's current in Newmarket when it was learned that Gregalach had not returned to his quarters. Mr. Tom. Leader, tho Newmarket, trainer of Gregalach, stated"When ' the horso left his stable for Hurst Park ho was fit to run for a kingdom'.. His display in tho Trial Steeplechase amazed mo. and Mr. Gemmell was evidently greatly upset. The head lad returned without Gregalach. He had a message from Mr. Gemmell stating that he had taken tho hprso away to bo properly examined by a veterinary Burgeon, and wo expect to hear tho report in the morning." i Gregalach wa3 sent to another trainer in H. Waldron, at Wantage, by motor-lorry. In his Hurst Park engagement ho wa3 ridden by Captain Coinage, and carried three stone of dead-weight, instead of hisusual rider Everitt. , Tho official veterinary surgeon found tho result of his examination a negative ono. Some days afterwards Mr. Gemmell and Leader met, and subsequently Leader stated that he no longer desired to train for Mr. Gemmell, and had aslced tho owner to take his other horsea out of tho stablo. Gregalach went on and contested the big event at Aintree, but was pulled up well beaten half-way through that race.

LADY PAM AND GESTURE. Tho Trentham-trained filly Lady Pnm has quite recovered from tho foot troublo which prevented her from starting at Ellerslio. It was intended to turn her out together with Sir Limond, but both were too fresh and it was decided to keep them pottering about rather than risk injuring themselves in the paddock. Much tho samo applies to Gesture, vvho cantered a couple of rounds on Saturday in tho cenlro of tho course. H. B. Lorigan intended to give her a short spell in the. paddock, but she was much too fresh and she is having only half a holiday.' .Sho looks in great health, even after only a few days' respilo from strenuous exerciao.

AGRION AGAIN RETIRED. The Derby winner Agrion has had six starts in Western Australia, and through some peculiar condition of tho race wad able to start in ai d naturally to win a trial plate event. He failed in his other races, but in his last, in April, he finished necond, but pulled up badly, and is not to raco again. In April of last year Agrion was sold at. tho Randwicl; sales for 325 guineas to a Western Australian syndicate. He served a number of nisires in the West, and. ns ho appeared to be pound, it y,as thought he might ho profitable on the turf again. These ideas have, been shattered through tho recurrence of the old leg trouble which placed the horse on tho retired list in New Zealand. SEASON'S FIXTURES. May S, 10—Egmont Racing Club.
