FIRMER LEVELS FOR WAIHIS.

Tho most notable movement on tho Auckland Stock Exchango at the opening of tho week yesterday was a further appreciation in Waihi Gold Mining stock, which touched th« highest level attained since February, 1929. Two transactions were recorded at 14s 2d, an advance of 2d 011 the best deal effected on Saturday. Business of average proportions was dono in other sections of tho market, tho tone of which remained easy. Government investments and local body debentures were keenly sought at practically unchanged rates. Slightly firmer offers ruled for War Bonds, 1933 and 1936, 5> per cents., hut in all cases sellers wero hard to locate.

Some improvement was registered in banks, offers in several cases moving favourably. Buyers of Australasias advanced 2s 6d to £l2 2s 6d, without response, and English, Scottish and Aus tralians wero in demand Is 6d firmer at £6 4s. Tho announcement of the dividend on New South Wales was simultaneous with an advance in offors from £3B 5s to £3B 12s 6d. Sellers wero steady at £39. Slightly loss business was done in tho section. Adelaides changed hands at £6 lis, which is tho first transaction ginco tho reduction of the dividend rate. "lhis represents a fall of 10s on the last sale in Christchurch, and a decline of £3 15s on tho last local transaction, which took placo in April, '1929. Commercials of Australia wero dealt in 4jd cheaper at 20s 10£ d, and again at 20s lOd. Offers for moro were 3d firmer than on Saturday at 20s 6d. Now Zealands had salo 3d easier at 445, tho single transaction satisfying the demand. Moro attention was given to loan and agency and Dalgetys had sale for tho first timo locally since tho declaration of tho reduced interim dividend, 5s 6d lower at £ll 2s, which is equal to tho level of recent business in Christchurch. Moro were wanted at £ll. Buyers also offered for National Mortgage and Agencies and Loan and Mercantiles. Coals were unaltered and in gas Auckland wore taken Id firmer at 23s 9d.

Offers covered a wider range in general investments. Colonial Sugars were in firmer demand at £4l, and were available at £42. The B preference issue of Farmers' Trading-; had sale at the unchanged price of 12s 3d. Farmers' Fertilisers were done Id cheaper at 18s Bd, at which price moro wero available. Wilsons Cements moved unfavourably with sale at 39s 3d, a fall of 7jd. Apart from the movement in Waihis, mining investments received little attention. Mount Lyells wore the only other shares in steady request, and they lost further ground with a doal Is 2d lower at 27s Id, and a subsequent transaction at 275.
