AUCKLAND LAMB.

HIGH PRAISE FROM LONDON.

" COMING INTO ITS OWN."

MARKED IMPROVEMENT SHOWN

r p t TELEGRAPH.— OWN COR RESPONDENT.] HAMILTON 1 , Friday.

marked improvement in tho quality of lambs from the Auckland Province is recorded in London, according to advice which has just been received by Mr. H. Mimro, manager of the Uuakura State farm. During the last season tho farm again exported its own lambs, the animals bring the progeny of Romney-cross ewes and Southdown > rams. No fewer than 1672 havo been sent to London this season.

The average weight of tho lambs was 361 h. and " 1R draft of 510 caught the '°P '' lo rnar ' iet realised an exceptionally good price, which equalled 30s lift on tho farm. Returns of tho sale of the later consignments havo not yet come to hand. Tho quality of the first consignment was so high that a number of tho carcases were utilised for a special exhibit at Smithficld, for the purpose of adycrtising Auckland lambs. The exhibitors were the Overseas Farmers' Co-operative Federation, Ltd., sn d this firm reports that tho lambs shown were an excellent representation of the quality they were learning to expect «nd respoct from tho Auckland Province. The lambs, the report stated, were shapely arid well Covered, giving a depth of meat which was always found in tho Down cross. As a parcel representative of the quality now slaughtered regularly in tho Auckland district, it' could not be praised too highly. As had been the opinion of a few at Smithfield for some years past, the Auckland brand was now coming into its own. due, in a gre;it measure, to the dominance of the Down. It was not so many years ginco these lambs were at a discount, tho report continued, due mainly to indifferent breeding, slackness in grading and bad freezing. This had now been changed, and the Auckland lamb was fast coming to the fore, with-a round, shapely carcase, thick and chubby, full of meat and of good colour. -
