WEEK-END WEATHER.

HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST. Tho following weather forecast for 48 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied to us by Mr. H. M. Vincent last ovening:—Fair to fine weather is indicated generally, but cloudiness increasing in places northward of New Plymouth and Napier, and rain probably following after about 24 hours, heavy in North Auckland districts.' Southerly winds, light to moderate, backing to east in northern areas, then freshening, and increasing strong to gale. Rough and increasing seas on the east coast, particularly northward from East Cape; smooth to moderate seas on tho west coast. A very intense high barometric pressure system is approaching the Dominion from tho Tasman Sea. The tropical disturbance which developed north-westward of New Zealand is moving south-eastward, and a cyclone is expected to result, causing stormy weather in tho North. Local outlook: Temporarily fair to fine, but becoming unsettled again, and rain following. Mild temperatures. Barometer, midnight, steady .. 30.15 in. Midnight, Thursday .. .. 30.20 in. GOVERNMENT REPORT. Tho Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows:—An intense anticyclone is still centred near Tasmania, but pressure is relatively low over and to the east of New Zealand. Conditions are rather disturbed in tho north Tasman Sea. Indications are for south-westerly winds over tho South Island and southwesterly to south-easterly, thence northwards, moderate for the most part, but freshening at times. Seas moderate. Moderate south-westerly to south-easterly winds in the eastern Tasman Sea, but freshening in the northern portion. Seas smooth to moderate. Tho weather will bo mainly fair to fino, but changeable at times in eastern and southern districts, with sorno isolated showers. Cold temperatures, with some night frosts. RAINFALL RECORD.
