NEW DEVONPORT LIBRARY.

OPENING ON WEDNESDAY. GIFT COLLECTION AUGMENTED. The official opening ceremony of the Devonport Public Library will bo hold on Wednesday afternoon at half-past threo o'clock, when tho Mayor of Dovonport, Mr. E. Aldridge, will give an address. Tho movement to establish a public library in Devonport was inaugurated in May last ycat by Mr. F. do J. Robin, who called a public meeting to discuss what should bo Hone with the gift of 2000 books /rom tho Napier Estate, and which had been accepted by tho Mayor. Efforts resulted in the raising of £135, and in addition 800 suitable books were added to the gift collection With 300 books which were purchased, there will bo a total of 1350 books in tho lending department, and 2500 books in tho reference section. The Hartley collection, which includes sumo old and ram books, has been added to the library. The library is housed in a concreto building in Clarence Street, the two sections, lending and reference, being divided by a wall through which an archway has been made.

The library will be open from two till four every Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons, and every evening from seven till nine, excepting Sundays.
