Tho men would be Selected from those on the Labour Department's register, and would ho sent as soon as possiblo to tho following road works: Tatarimu-Mangatawhiri Road, 25 men; Klondyke, 25; Ngaruawahia-Waingaro Springs main highway to Pukerniro railway station road. 25: Coromandel-Wha-highway, 25; Taumaruinii-Taupo, 25. The relief of unemployment in Dunedin appears to bo giving the Government ■trouble on account of the refusal of many who register to take work in the country. Discussing the question to day, the Minister of Public Works, Hon. E. A. Ransom, stated that of the men who had iegistered at tho Dunedin Trades Hall only 150 had registered at tho Oovernnicut Labour Bureau, inclusive of 72 who were already registered there. "A large proportion of the married men who havo registered at tho bureau have either refused Government work offered in the country or have stated they want town work only." tho Minister added. "Special inquiries have been made and no Government department, including the Public Works Department, has any work in or near Dunedin city which could ho offered to them. However, sufficient work has been arranged for all men who are now registered at the labour bureau and who are prepared to proceed to tho country."
