PLUNGE OYER BANK.

MAN AND WIFE KILLED.

TWO CHILDREN ESCAPE.

SEQUEL TO COLLISION. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT-! WELLINGTON, Sunday. Two'people, a man and his wife, were killed as a result of their motor-car plunging over a bank in the Ngahauranga Gorge, this afternoon. Their two children, who were also in tho car, escaped uninjured. Tho victims are:— Mr. Norman John Cook, grocer, of Johnsonville, driver of the car. Mrs. Cook, wifo of the driver. Tho accident occurred after a glancing collision with another car at a rightangled corner. Mr. and Mrs. Cook wero driving toward Wellington in a five-seater touring car, and when about 1000 yards on the city side of Johnsonville, they met a five-seater sedan driven by Mr. Alfred Edward Storoy. A collision occurred, and Mr. Cook's car, which struck the other vehicle at the rear of the front mudguard, plunged over the bank into a stream. Mrs. Cook, who was sitting in the front seat alongside her husband, was killed instantly. Mr. Cook received a fracture at tho base of tho skull, a broken breastbone and a fracture of several ribs. Tho ambulance was called and it took Mr. Cook to the Wellington Hospital, where he died at 4.30 p.m. The two children, Joan, aged nine, and William, aged seven, who occupied the back seat, were not injured. When the car left tho road it dropped down the steep bank about 10ft. and lay on its right side in the creek. The windscreen was wrenched off, the hood reduced to pieces of torn canvas, and the steering wheel broken. The seats and matting wero thrown out into the water.

Floating in the stream after the accident, and lending a pathetic note to tlje scene, was a bunch of flowers, which the now tragically-bereaved children had been carrying with them in the back seat.

GREAT SOUTH ROAD MISHAP.

One of the four persons who were injured when two motor-cycles collided violently on the Great South Road on the evening of March 28, Mr. Allan Wilkin, aged 21, died at the Auckland Hospital early last evening. His injuries included a fracture of the skull and a compound fracture of the thigh. Mr. Wilkin, who was single, resided at Papakura. The accident occurred at a slight bend in the road near the Hume Pipe Company's premises. Mr. Wilkin, who had with him as pillion passenger Mr. L. Aukett, also of Papakura, was travelling toward Auckland, and collided head-on with another motor-cycle, ridden by Mr. Herbert Crewther, of Otahuhu, and Miss Annie Campbell, also of Otahuhu. Mr. Wilkin was found lying in the midst of the wreckage of the two cycles. He was brought in to the hospital by the hospital ambulance, and was admitted in a very grave condition.

YOUNG MAN LOSES LIFE.

STRUCK BY FARMER'S CAR. PUBLIC WORKS DRAUGHTSMAN. [by telegraph.'—own correspondent.] HAMILTON, Sunday. Fatal injuries were received by Mr. Norman Stephen Bradley, aged 25 years, as the result of being struck by a motor-car near the entrance to the Te Kapa racecourse shortly after noon yesterday. Mr. Bradley, who is a single man, \\<is an electrical draughtsman employed by the Public Works Department and resided in Te Rapa I?6ad. Ho was about to cross the road when a car driven by Mr. August Herman Deinlcr, a farmer of Motumaoho, struck him on the side. The hospital ambulance was summoned and on admittance to the Waikato Hospital lie was found to bo suffering from concussion and severe injuries to the chest and scalp. His condition was serious and became gradually worse during the night. Death occurred early this morning. An inquest be opened before the coroner, Mr. Wyveni Wilson, S.M., tomorrow evening.

CYCLE AND CAR COLLIDE.

THREE SENT TO HOSPITAL. [by telegraph.—press association.! PALMKHSTON NORTH, Sunday. A serious motor accident occurred at Mount Stew T art last evening when Mr. Archie Iliekcy on a motor-cycle and a car containing a party of five footballers driven by Mr. Joseph Evans collided. Mr. llickey received a fractured jaw and broken leg. Mr. Evans had one arm broken. Mr. Phillip Gerald Fitzgerald is suffering from shock. These three are in the hospital.

ACCIDENTS IN CITY.

CYCLE AND TAXICAB. As the result of a collision between the motor-cycle ho was riding and a taxicab at the intersection of Mackelvie Street nnd Ponsonby Road at 5.30 on Saturday afternoon, Mr. Ronald James White, of 26, Ponsonby Terrace, Ponsonby, received a fracture of tho skull and a fractured wrist. ITo was removed to the Auckland Hospital l>y tho St. .John Ambulance in an unconscious condition, and last evening his case was regarded as serious. . At the time of the accident Mr. White was travelling along Ponsonby Road, and tho tajcicab was crossing at the intersection of Mackelvie Street. Mr. White's machine struck the rear of tho taxicab, and ho was thrown to tho road heavily, being picked up unconscious. Another motor-cyclist, Mr. Charles Mnyne, aged 31, a singlo man, residing at 662, Manukau Road, qollided with a motor-car in Western Springs Road, near the stadium, on Saturday afternoon.
