When Peruse pulled up after finishing second in the first division of the Maiden Stakes at Te Rapa on Saturday, she came back to the birdcage very lame. A veterinary surgeon examined her and found that she had received a fracture of the pisiform, a small bone behind the knee. The -injury will prevent Peruse from racing again and it is intended to keep her for stud purposes. Peruse had started only twice and her performance in running second was a promising one. Sho is a half-sister (by Nassau) to the smart sbrinter Royal Duke, so that she possessed distinct possibilities. Her owner, Mr. J. Hannon, is * brother of Mr. R. Hannon, of Hautapu.
