DRAINAGE EXTENSIONS.
COUNCIL ACCEPTS TENDERS.

The Cambridgo Borough Council last evening accepted tenders for extension of the borough sewerage system, a. loan of £24.500 for the scheme and £SOOO for assisting private installations having previously been carried. Turpi vo tenders came before tho council last evening. It was resolved to accept a tender by Speight, Pearce, Nicoll, Davys, Ltd., Cambridge, for tlio erection of septic tanks, the tender being the lowest, £I9OO.
'I lie council also accepted .1 tender by C.rinfer Bros., Auckland, £11,062 18s, for excavation and laying pipes. The council will purcHa.se its own pipes and Hie whole work will cost £18,631. The engineer's estimate was £20.939 12s 6d.
For the septic tanks the lenders ranged from £I9OO up to £2365. The council declined an application by Mr. .J. lieilley, of Te Awamutu, for a permit to erect an up-to-date petrol service station on the corner of Hamilton and Victoria Roads, opposite I he Anglican Church. Tho council's decision was unanimous, it, being considered that the. station would interfere with tho amenities of the neighbourhood.
