MR. NASH GIVES EVIDENCE.

ADJOURNMENT UNTIL MAY 8„

Notwithstanding the " black " edict of tho Alliance of Labour, evidence was given to-day by a representative of official Labour-before the committee which is investigating the Workers' Compensation Act.

The witness was tho national secretary of the New Zealand Labour Party, Mr. VV. Nash, M.P., who gavo evidence on behalf of the Labour Legislation Committee. f| he appearance of Mr. Nash bofore the committee was in line with the attitude of tho political section of the Labour movement, as outlined in the policy statement on the subject issued last week.

.After hearing other evidence, including that from the New Zealand Employers' Federation, the New Zealand Sheepfarmers' Federation, and tho insurances companies, the committee adjourned until May 8.

The chairman, Mr. 8. ft. Smith, M.P., said that the reason for (.lie adjournment was the approach of the Faster holidays and tho Parnell by-election. So far the committee had had a busy, time of it. and a considerable volume of valuable evidence had been given by all sections of the community.

Although differences between the two bodies may continue, tho Wellington Irades and Labour Council has not decided to cancel its affiliation with tho Albanco of Labour. Whether tho question will bo again raised remains to be seen, but it was not officially considered at. the annual meeting of the council on Thursday night. As tho result of tho meeting tho following will bo the Trades Council officers for the year:—President, Mr. W. Bomley; vice-president, Mr. W. Atkinson; secretary, Mr. F. D. Cornwell; executive, Messrs. J. Geague, E. Kennedy, J. Tucker, G. W. Whippy, T. Pyne; auditor, Mr. H. Bolton.
