AMERICAN PRESIDENCY.

MR. COOLIDGE'S ATTITUDE.

PUBLIC SERVICES TERMINATED

NEW YORK, April 10.

Mr. Calvin Coolidge, ex-President of the United States, in an article published in the latest issue of- the Cosmopolitan Magazine, put, an end to all suggestions and rumours that he might be a candidate for a third term as President, or for a seat, in the Senate.

" When I left Washington I left, public office," savs Mr. Coolidge. "It was an incomprehensible relief. I have no intention of returning to office. " If I were in the Senate it would not be agreeable, to many of my colleagues and with all my desire to be helpful probably it would often be an embarrassment, to the Administration to have a, former President in Washington exercising political power. If would result in all kinds of uncomfortable complications and only the necessity of serving in some national crisis so great as to subordinate all other considerations would warrant it. " Nor have I any sympathy with those who are discussing again making me President," continues Mr. Coolidge. "The service f could give the peoplp in that office I feel is done." Discussing prohibition Mr. Coolidge savs: "Considering that (ho people have differed most radically as to the best method of regulating the sain of liquor for generations it is not likely to be settled for a long time to come." He concludes with a discussion of Ihe advisability of minding one's own business.
