DASH ALONG FOOTPATH.
WOMAN RECEIVES INJURIES
SENSATION IN QUEEN STREET.
A motor car dashing along the footpath in Queen Street, startled pedestrians last evening, and a woman was knocked down and injured. After colliding with the buttress of the safety zone in Queen Street between Fort Street and Shortland Street ft small motor-car proceeding from the direction of the post office swung across the road, mounted the footpath and knocked down Mrs. Hilda Burgess, of 3, Surrey Street, Grey Lynn, who was standing near the edge of the footpath. Mrs. Burgess was thrown almost against tho window of a tobacconist's shop. Tho car did not stop. It continued along the footpath, missing several pedestrians by inches. At the intersection of Queen Street and Shortland Street the car left 'the footpath and shot into the road. A sailor, who had to jump to escape being struck, ran after the car and attempted to board it. However, it was by now travelling rapidly up Queen Street, and it, turned into Wyndham Street and was lost to sight.
Tha St. John Ambulance was immediately summoned, and Mrs. Burgess was taken to the Auckland Hospital. She was found to be suffering from facial abrasions and severe bruises on. tho right side, as well as shock. Her condition is not serious.
Witnesses of the accident state that there were two young men and a girl in the car. They say the car struck the zone a glancing blow and skidded straight across tbo road, grazing a verandah post as it mounted the footpath.
