DEMOLITION OF OLD RELIC

. The Did Mansion House, in Cheapside, the official home of the Lord Mayors of London before the present. Mansion House was built, is being demolished. It was built by Sir Christopher Wren just after the C.icat Fire, and was first used Ivy Sir William Turner, Lord Mayor from :1660 to 1669. Since the present Mansion House was built it has been used ■ for commercial purposes, and it is now to make room for banking premises. A.; much as possible of tho old building will bo preserved. A wonderful eaived staircase, which has served since the building was erected, has been carefully dismantled, and will bo re-erected in tho new building. The stone frontage, has been sold. '

The Guildhall authorities have made complete scale drawings of the building aud its carvings, to'bo kept as records.
