BANQUET SUSPENDED.
STRANGE SCENE IN MADRID.
SPEAKER -ATTACKS THE KING
(Received April 9, 10.35 p.m.) MADRID, April 9
One of the most lively banquets on record took place at the Hotel National, Madrid, last evening. It was given in honour of a Republican, Senor Domingo, in connection with his book': " Where Goes Spain." There were c JjQ guests.
The speakers were warned not to abuse the Government's newly-granted permission for public gatherings to be held. However, one speaker said lie was not going to mince his words and proceeded to make an attack on King Alfonso. Thereupon a Government official declared the banquet suspended and called in dozens of policemen with drawn swords. The diners fled amid a pandemonium of wrecked tables and broken crockery. Eight of them were arrested, but later were released.
