MUSIC WEEK.

Sir,—Although I put in a plea at Monr day's meeting for the broadcasting of some, if not all, the big demonstration concerts to be staged during the forthcoming music week, the reply given by, Dr. Kenneth Phillips was that the intention behind the mindii of the promoters was rather to get away from broadcasting.I took this expression of opinion to be in the same category an the sketch programme which he submitted,, more tentative, than considered and settled. -By their sheer novelty and quality, the big concerts during music week will, if reasonably well organised, riay to capacity houses; what harm, then, in permitting their broadcast? Why begrudge a few musical crumbs to the musically starved country dweller? With a precedent of such distinction as the broadcasting of the Canterbury festival in England last year, the incoming committee might do worse than afford the fullest possible facilities to the hug«i unseen audience beyond the city confines, and give tlieru the opportunity of beii;ig thrilled and inspired by massed singling and playing.. From actual knowledge end correspondence with wireless listeners in remote country districts, I know (hat the benefits of such broadcasts would be beneficial to a degree undreamt of by the average city dweller. Karl 'Atkinson.
