SATISFACTORY POSITION.

" Tlio finances of the borough are in a most satisfactory condition," said the Mayor, Mr. E. AJdridge, at a meeting of the Devonport Borough Council last evening, in commenting 011 the accounts for the past year. " The borough has lived within its income and has wiped off a dobt of £3OOO which has boon like a nightmare for three years." Reviewing the figures for the year ended March 31, 1930, Mr. Aldridge said that if all the rates now outstanding could be collected the borough would have a credit balanco of £2OOO. The genoral rate had produced £10,568, compared with £11,285 in 1929.
