WORK OF AUCKLAND BRANCH
A general meeting of the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute was held in tho institute's room, Wollesley Street, last ovening, tho president, Mr. E. Varley Hudson, presiding. The president reported on the work done by the management committee sinco the last general meting. Tho committee had held 21 meetings. Among the most urgent topics which had engaged the attention of tho oommitteo were unemployment among teachers, proficiency regulations, training collego entrance examinations, and the new regulations for the inspection and organisation of schools. The president instanced cases where teachers had been helped by tho institute and referred to tho work done by tho secretary, Mr. J. Armstrong. A discussion followed on tho proficiency regulations in the light of a possible reorganisation of tho education system, and on the remits to tho annual conference to be hold in Wellington in May. Tho next general meeting will bo held on Friday, June 20.
