AID FOR MANUFACTURERS.

PROPOSAL IN AUSTRALIA

CANBERRA. April 9.

It is understood that tho Federal Government has decided to grant assistance to manufacturers of newsprint in Australia. Probably this will be in the form of a bounty of £4 a ton on paper made in the Commonwealth and an extra duty of £1 on imported newsprint.

This follows tho lines undertaking given by tho Bruce-Page Ministry that aid would bo given to local newsprint manufacturers on condition that tho output" reached 30,000 tons a year.
