CHARGES FOR POWER.
AUCKLAND BOARD'S RATES. POSSIBILITY OF REDUCTION. A suggestion t'lat there is a possibility of a reduction in tho charges for light and power supplied by tho Auckland Power Board was made at the meeting of the board yesterday.
Mr. E. H. Potter said he assumed that members of tho board would have an opportunity of discussing at a later date a reduction in the power and light changes.
The chairman, Mr. W. J. Holdsworth, replied that the question would be brought before the board when the time was opportune. It might bo considered possible to make a reduction to meet tho requirements of the peoplo or to help industry as much as possible. That was a duty of tho board.
Mr. Potter pointed out that ho had raisod the matter because the local bodies would now bo framing their estimates and an announcement of tho board's policy would assist them. "I expected that this would be left until tho supply of power from Arapuni had been consolidated," said Mr. J. Parke. "I think the chairman has something in storo and he will bo liberal when tho timo comes." Inquiry was made by Mr. J. Rowo concerning the report upon localities yet to be supplied with power. 1 The engineer, Mr. R, 11. Bartloy, said ho had secured all tho information on tho subject and could present the report in a fortnight's time. It had been a big task gathering tho information.
Mr. Holdsworth said tho report would be presented as soon as possible and the board would then see what had to bo done in the area uudor its jurisdiction.
