WHISKY FOR A PARTY.
THEFT FROM REMUERA HOUSE LABOURER ADMITS OFFENCE. A charge of breaking and entering the residence of Mr. (i. W. Hutchison in Portland Road, Remuera, on March 22 and stealing four bottles of whisky, three bottles of vermouth and two rings, of a total value of £7 3s 6d, was admitted in tho Police Court yesterday by Raymond Trevor Child, aged 21, labourer.
After Mr. Hutchison had detailed the state in which his house was found after he had been away with bin wife and family over the week-end, Acting-De-tectivo Kempt produced a statement made by accused.
In his statement Child said that on the evening of Saturday, March 22, he had left homo at 7 p.m. to meet another man. Each had taken a number of drinks during the day, and Child had a flask of whisky, which he drank. Wanting more liquor, they went by tramcar to Portland Road, Remuera, where Child knew there was an empty house, that of Mr. Hutchison. After entering by breaking a glasspanel in the front door, he stole tho liquor, while the other man t.xik two rings, ono of which he gave to accused. The whisky was taken to a party. Accused pleaded guilty and was committed for sentence.
