TRAMWAY FATALITY.
OPENING OF INQUEST. VICTIM'S WIFE RELEASED. An inquest was opened by the coroner, Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., yesterday into tho death of Thomas Gannon, aged 50, of Riro Street, Point Chevalier, who received fatal injuries when bo was | struck by a tramcar in College Hill, POll- - about six o'clock on Saturday evening. Ho was taken to the Auckland Hospital, where he died at 7.50 on Sunday morning. In addition to a fracture of the skull, deceased received severe internal injuries. Evidence of identification was given by Thomas Gannon, deceased's son, who said his father was a native of County Mayo, Ireland. Ho had been employed by the Auckland Gas Company. The inquest was then adjourned. The sentence of 21 days' imprisonment, which was imposed on Rebecca Gannon, wife of the deceased Thomas Gannon, in tho Police Court on Saturday morning, will not now be served, the Minister of Justice, Sir Thomas Sidey, having approved her release on tho application of Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., who imposed the sentence and opened the inquest on deceased. Mrs. Gannon was convicted of the theft of a frock and skirt from city shops on Friday evening.
