WORK IN ANTARCTIC.
VALUE OF METEOROLOGY. BROADCAST BY WILKINS. (Received March 23, 5.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, March 22. Sir Hubert Wilkins, in a broadcast speech, told of his contemplated plans for a detailed survey and study of Antarctica, The famous explorer Stefannson introduced his former assistant and told of the occasion when Sir Hubert really saved his expedition. Sir Hubert reviewed Rear-Admiral Byrd's work. He asserted his convictions of the importance of the establishment of weather posts in Antarctica.
He said men could work there. There was no more danger there than on the streets of New York.
" But," he said, " we want to see if we could get supplies to the men regularly, and if they could be maintained in conditions desirable enough to get men to stay there."
Sir Hubert said it was difficult to place a monetary value -upon his and Byrd's work, but its importance would be more apparent in the future.
