FLIER LOSES CHANCE.
PARKERSON WAKES LATE. START OF FLIGHT DELAYED. (Received March 23, 5.45 p.m.) LONDON, March 2^. Mr. C. P. Parkerson, the Auckland airman, went to Lympne aerodrome at 4.20 a.m. hoping to start for Australia, but it was raining heavily, so he returned to bed and did not wake until 8.30 a.m., when the weather was at its best, with a favourable north-west wind. But it was then too late to start. He hopes to leave to-morrow.
Mr. Parkerson, who is using a Gipsy Moth, hopes to reach Rome on the first day. The machine has been fitted up lor a maximum petrol capacity and lias a range of 20 hours. In view of his projected flight from Sydney to Auckland. Mr. Parkerson said he did not think so much of the fiving to Australia as the Sydney-Auckland flight, which was his real objective. The machine carries such a quantity oi petrol that room is left only for a few sandwiches, a tin of milk, and a revolver.
