ANNUAL PICNICS.
SUCCESSFUL EXCURSIONS. MOTUIHI AND FERNDALE. Several annual picnics of firms were held during tfc? week-end, when the fine weather attracted large attendances and added to the enjoyment of the excursions. Outings were held at Motuihi Island and Ferndale. The annual picnic of the staff of Arthur Cleave and Company, Limited, was held at E'erndale on Saturday. About 230 employees and friends were present, and the excursion was highly successful. llr. Arthur Cleave was unable to attend, but his three scn3, Messrs. P. E., A. L. and E. H. Cleave, were present. The children were' specially catered for. A large number of the sports events, including the staff handicap and the 220 yds. race, were won by Mr. McLaren, who gave an outstanding performance. The ladies' race was won by lira. Way.
ABEL, DYKES, LIMITED. The employees of Abel, Dykes, Limited, held their annual picnic at Motuihi Island on Saturday, there being a good attendance of members and friends. A gramophone was available and music and competitions were held. . Sports events were held in the afterneon. the results being as follows Ladies' Nail-Driving Competition.—Miss Sommerville, 1. Ladies' egg and spoon race. 50yd3: Miss Reeve, 1: Mia a Kerr, 2. Employees' handicap (ladies). 50yds: Miss E. Holdsworth, I: Miss P. Munroe. 2. Emp'oyeeß' handicap (men), 100 yds: G. Hatcher, 1; R. Agr.ew, 2. Thread the needle race (lady and gent): Miss Munro and Sweeney 1; Miss Cox and Biewden. 2. Departmental relay (teams of four) : Office. 1; Compositors, 2. Cigarette race (lady and gent), 50yds: Miss Ambrose" and North. 1; Mr 3. Fowler and Gapes, 1. Marquis of Lorne (young buffers over 10), 50yds: F. Rotherham, 1: W. C. Rotherham, 2. HARDLEY'S STAFF PICNIC. Some 800 people attended the JSth annual staff picnic of Hardley's, Limited. Newmarket, at Motuihi Island, on Saturday. In presenting the prizes for the sports events. Mr. J. W. Hardley. chairman of directors, recalled the first staff picnic at Henderson in 1912. Since then the personnel of the firm's employees had increased rapidly. He congratulated the secretary and the committee upon the success of the outing. Following are the results:— Hardley's Handicap.—Franklin, 1; Batty, 2. Apprentices' handican: Montrose, 1; Burgess 2.
