ENDOWMENT APPEAL.
TO AID THE MOTHERS. WAIMAUKU. A large number of visitors from Woodhill, Rewiti and Helensville attended the meeting convened by Mrs. C. H.» Jackson in the Waimauku Coronation Hall last week to consider ways and means of raising money for the endowment fund for an obstetrical chair for Otago University. Mr. R. Hoe presided, about 70 people being present. Mrs. C. A. Jackson was elected secretary. Dr. Hilda Northcroft, of Auckland, and Dr. F. Matheson, of Helensville, wore also present. Dr. Northcroft explained the benefits women of New Zealand would receive from the establishment of a chair of obstetrics and pointed out tho great need of having one in our Dominion. Dr. Matheson endorsed Dr. Hilda Northcroft's statements and said he was present mainly to show that the medical profession was vory much in sympathy with tho movement and to point out that it rested with tho womei} to use tho advantages that tho chair of obstetrics would afford. Mrs. T. Charter, of Waimauku, also spoke strongly in favour of the movement.
A committee with power to add to its numbers was formed, comprising ladies from Waimauku Valley, Waimauku, Muriwai Beach and tho Motutara districts. The following committee was eleetod:—Chairman, Mrs. T. Charter; secretary, Mrs. C. A.i Jackson ; committee, Mesdames T. Kerr-Taylor, R. M. Matheson, J. Adkins, J. B. Copeland, C. Robins and W. G. Coster. At a committeo meeting held at tho close of the public meeting it was decided to open the campaign with a social afternoon, to bo held at, Waimauku next Friday. WOODHILL. At a meeting of tho Woodhill Women's Institute Mrs. C. Jackson addressed members concerning tho obstetrical endowment fund. It was decided that all members should take an active part in the campaign to raise tho necessary amount. An indoor carnival will bo held in April. WAIUKU. An enthusiastic meeting was held in Wesley Hall, Waiuku, in connection with the obstetrical appeal. The chairman of the Town Board, Mr. A. James, occupied the chair, and introduced tho speakers—Dr. Buckley Turkington and Mrs. A. Kidd. At the conclusion of an interesting address a strong committee was formed, Mrs. A. James being elected president and Mrs. N. R. McElwain secretary and treasurer. ,Col-
lecting cards will be issued immediately, and it is hoped that the sum required for the district's quota will soon be forthcoming. MANUREWA. A large and enthusiastic meeting of Manurewa ladies was held last week with a view to raising funds to assist in the cause. Addresses were given by Mrs. C. McGuire and Mrs. Burgess-, president of the New Plymouth Victoria League, also Dr. Campbell Jenkins. Mrs. A. C. A. Sexton was appointed chairwoman of the branch and Mrs. F. Whyte secretary and treasurer; committee, all the ladies present.
A considerable sum has already been received in donations, the list having been opened by the Countess of Orford with a donation of £lO.
