EAST TAMAKI GATHERING. CLOSE CONTESTS RESULT. Favoured by fine weather the East Taniaki Amateur Sports Club held its annual spoils meeting in the East Taniaki recreation grounds on Saturday afternoon. The events drew a record number of entries, and some close contests resulted. The officials for the meeting wore:—Handicappers, Messrs. J. Wliitten and W. A. Roller; starter, Mr. J. In quest of the professional sprint championship of the world, Don McLennan, champion of New Zealand, leaves CJjrislchurch to-morrow . for Melbourne. McLennan has never been beaten in a professional sprint by a New Zealander oft the name mark. The only man who has ever beaten liiin off (he sumo mark was Lynch Conner, (ho present world's professional champion! Since that race, McLennan has much improved and has consistently run lOOy.ls in even time or better.
