HOCKEY ASSOCIATION.
QUESTION OF INCORPORATION PAST YEAR REVIEWED. The question of forming the Auckland Hockey Association into an incorporated body will be raised at the annual meeting of the association at the end of this month. The committee considers that circumstances have arisen which make it almost imperative that the association should become incorporatgd and it is asking members to support the proposal. • In its annual report tlio committee records a loss of £SB 18s 7d on the year's working. While fees received were £204 5s 6d less than in the previous year, the expenditure for ground rent and maintenance was also less by £263 4s Id, and a profit would thoreforo have been made but for the following reasons:—(l) An allowance of £7O 16s 8d was made to the shield team which travelled to Christchurch to play the Canterbury representatives; (2) a loss of £52 19s Id was sustained on the Australia v. New Zealand test match, played at Eden Park. The amount of £270 15s 5d in the bank is largely cash received for the sale of the association's assets. This gear would have to be replaced if the association again acquired a permanent ground; therefore, this cash should be reserved for that purpose as far as possible. The affiliated clubs number 13, as compared with 14 in the previous year. Primary schools hockey had not, been a success during the season. "It is regretted that the ground question is still much the same as it was Ais time last year," states the committee. "This is not to be taken as a sign that the committee has ignored or overlooked this most vital matter. Unfortunately, the big handicap is lack of the necessary finance and before anything definite can be done in the way of the
purchase or lease of a suitable sito some method must be evolved of securing funds to undertake such a scheme. In order to secure grounds for the coming season tho Auckland City Council, the Onehunga Borough Council and tho Auckland Girls' Athletic Association have boen approached, but so far no allocation has been made."
The committee makes a strong appeal to ex-players to continue to take an active part in the management and to assist the Referees' Association.
