THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE. BUSINESS ON SATURDAY. There were few movements of note at the Saturday call on the Auckland Stock Exchange, and transactions - were few. Numerous buying quotations for Government' securities elicited very little response from holders.

In banks quotations for Australian Bank of Commerco hardened threepence to 24s 6d and 25s 9d. Business was again done in Commercial Bank of Australia at 21s lOd. National Bank of New Zcalands were inquired for at £5 15s and offered at £6 Is. Quotations for New South Wales and for New Zealands wero unchanged. • For Goldsbrough-Morts 31s 6d was offered', holders asking Is 6d more. Thero was i close market in Westport Coals, which were quoted at 30s and 30s 6d. A sale of Auckland Gas was made at the current price of 23s 6d, and more wero to bo had at this figure, buyers 23s 3d. Waihis wero sought at 13s 4d and offered at 13s 9d. Mount Lyells were distinctly firmer, buyers offering 33s 9d. sollers 34s 3d.

Interesting figures concerning the production of factories and''works in New South Wales during the year ended June 30, 1929, arc supplied by the State Government Statistician in a preliminary report. The value of output is shown at £185,138,575, and the value of production, less the value of materials used, is £73,557,441. The number of employees engaped is estimated at 185,123. including 139,114 males and 46,009 females. The amount of salaries and wages paid was £38,534,637. The number of factories increased during the year by 99, and the, number of employees by 2463, namely, 1178 males and 1285 femalesAppreciable.increases were shown in the number of employees in the following industries Metal works, machinery, clothing, textile, fabrics, vehicles, saddlery, food and drink. Decreases are shown in the number of employees in the following industries: —Treating raw materials (agricultural and pastoral), s.tone, clay, glass, shipyards and boatbuilding.
