TAXI AND CAR COLLIDE;

WOMAN PASSENGER INJURED.

BOTH VEHICLES DAMAGED.

A collision between a taxi-cab, driven by E. J. Gait, and <lll unoccupied slntion- ■ aiy motor-car, owned by Mr. A. Addison, of Petone, occurred' near the intersection of Symonds Street and Wakefield Street at 10.20 last- evening. A passonger in the taxi, Mrs. Oakley, was thrown against tho windscreen and received slight scalp injuries! After treatment at tho casualty ward of the Auckland Hospital she was able to return home. Both vehicles were considerably damaged. Tbe bumper of the motor-car. was bent round a lamp pole, the mudguards battered and the radiator benf.. The force of the impact pushed the radiator cap of the taxi through tho cowl near the benzine tank, while the. windscreen was cracked and the steering wheel twisted. YOUNG GHtL INJURED. KNOCKED DOWN BY CAR, _ Seribus injuries were received by Eunice Amelia Wood, aged six, of 1, Brown Street, Ponsonby, when she was koncked down by a taxi-cab at the corner of Brown Street and Ponsonby Road about 6.30 last evening. The girl was taken to tho Auckland Hospital suffering from head and internal injuries and a severe fracture of the thigh. Her condition late last evening was serious. COLLISION AT CORNER. CHILD CUT BY GLASS. A collision between two sedan cars, 0110 driven by Dr. J. H. Lawry, of Huntly Avenue, Newmarket, and the other by Mr. C. T. Armstrong, of Paumure Road, Ellersfie, occurred at -the junction of Manukau and Great South Roads shortly a-'Ler 8 o'clock last evening. The impact was severe, and tho crash was heard several hundreds of yards away, although neither car was extensively damaged. Dr. Lawry was' turning into St. Mark's Road after approaching along Manukau Road from Epsom, and Mr. Armstrong was turning into the Great South Road from tho direction of Newmarket Dr.* Lawry's car was struck on the left-hand side.

Dr. Lawry's daughter was slightly cut about the head by broken glass. Otherwise no one was injured. The runningboard of Dr. Lawry's car was damaged, and two of the windows were shattered. Mr. Armstrong's car escaped with a damaged bumper and radiator. , CAPSIZE OF CAR. OCCUPANTS ESCAPE LIGHTLY. [BY TET.EGKAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON, Friday.. A car driven by Mr. P. 0- Bonham and containing a party of Hamilton residents overturned •on the road at Mangaiti when the party was returning from a swimming carnival Paeroa - last Evening. The occupants of the car were not seriously hurt and, the car returned to Hamilton under its own power. FALL OVER STEEP BANK. CAR STOPPED BY TREE. [BY TFXEGRAPIT. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WHANGAREI, Friday. A narrow escape from serious injury was experienced by Mr. T. Burns, a car salesman of Whangarei, when tlio car ho was driving capsized near Broadwood at 7.50 last evening over a steep bank 30ft. high. The car somersaulted four times and was considerably damaged. Mr. Burns had the presence of mind to irwitcb off the engine and crouch on the bottom of the car until it crashed sgainst a tree at the bottom of the cliff, which "saved it "from plunging into the river below.

While returning from a meeting at-Dar-gavillc last night Mr. J. Wilson, of Whangarei, and two companions, had a narrow escape from death. Mr. Wilson was driving in a motor-car and when ; near tho approach of the Kirikopuni Bridge he ran into the back of a motor-lorry driven by Mr. J. Taylor and travelling-in the ,same direction. • ; ! ■

The force of the impact-sent - Mr.. Wilson's car against the end' of the rails of fhe bridge. One of; tho / rails passed through the wind-screen between Mr. LWilson and his companion-in tho front seat, and then through the; hood of the car, which then toppled over and was only saved from falling- into the river by impact with a telegraph post. , ' 'Fortunately, beyond a very severe shaking. none of the occupants of the car suffered injury,, but. the. car was damaged considerably and had to. bo towed to Whangarei to-day. No damage was done to the lorry.
