[by telegraph.—own correspondent.] DUNEDIN, Friday. Speaking at a gathering of his election committee aW supporters, the Hon. W. B. Taverner, Minister of Bail-ways, said that though the Government had been in power only a little over a year it. could show results of a highly satisfactory nature notwithstanding the many difficulties that had had to be faced.

Dealing with the State Advances Department, the Minister said that on De-. cember 10, 1928, when the Government came into office, there were 3971 applications for loans amounting to £4,168.290 waiting to be dealt with. All those applications had been disposed of and the arrears overtaken. During the year 9461 additional applications, amounting to £10,478,200, were received. All the applications received during the Government's first twelve months of office, save a few exceptions, which are receiving attention, had been dealt with. ' ' The amount paid over "for the year totalled £6,347,137, a record; since tha Act came into force in 1804. In Danedin 84 loans, aggregating £74,345, were authorised to applicants during the twelve months ended February 28; 1930.
