NEW ZEALAND AIRMEN.
FORCED DOWN.ON ISLAND.
DELAY OF THREE WEEKS.
ARRIVAL AT SOURABAYA.
By Telegraph—Preßß Association—Copyright. (Received March 21, 10.5 p.m.) SINGAPORE, March 21. Because the Netv Zealand airmen, Fly-ing-Officers Piper and Kay, who are en route from England to Australia, landed on the Royal Air Force ground adjoining the naval base, 18 miles from Singapore town, few people were aware of their arrival or their departure yesterday morning for Muntok. The bad luck they encountered in India continued after they had left Calcutta. While flying off the Burma coast engine trouble forced their descent on the small uninhabited island of Borongo, near Akyab, where they were delayed three weeks, working at repairs all day in the tropic sun and sleeping at nights in their machine, as there was no shelter. In spite of adversities the airmen were most optimistic, although tired out when they arrived at Singapore. They later proceeded to Weltevreden, and a message says they left there at 7.20 a.m. to-day for Sourabaya, Java, where they arrived this evening. They will leave for Timor to-morrow morning.
