NOTES FROM ELLERSLIE.
GOSSIP OF THE TRACKS.
* BY ARCHER,
Although there were a good many horses working, the training operations at Ellerslie yesterday did not provide a great deal of interest. One of the best gallops was recorded by Cynthia N., who ran a round on the No. 1 gras3 in 1.51. The last seven furlongs were accomplished in 1.32. and the imported mare moved with plenty of freedom. At present Cynthia N. is as well as ever she has been and it is expected that she will make a decent bid for victory in the Tauranga Cup, in which she is handily weighted at 7.7. She is to be ridden by W. H. Jones, whoso other mounts at the Bay of Plenty meeting will include Modest Boy and Joy Girl.
On the course proper, where the flags were out about 60ft., J. "Williamson's two-year-olds, Kafflight, Trcmetus and Thcspis, wexe yesterday allowed to stride alons over four furlongs and ran the last three ill 41 2-ss. These youngsters are all showing improved condition and should be in nice order for autumn racing. Tremctus is already a winner this season, and, though he is not a prepossessing customer, he is doing well enough lo indicate that he has further prospects when the good ones aia absent. Raf&ight is developing into an attractive colt, and, as he displays plenty oi speed, he may come good when he ie thoroughly matured.
Two of the most recent recruits to the jumping brigade at Ellerslie aro Glittering Gold and the four-year-old gelding by Day Comet from Dolly Clements that is being trained by E. C. Rae. They were given a lesson over the pony hurdles yesterday and both shaped very uatisfactorily. Glittering Gold displaying quite a lot e>f dash in clearing the obstacles. Kerry Dance was another to school over tho pony hurdles yesterday and he also gave a satisfactory exhibition. Kerry Dance is hardening in condition and muscling up nicely and jnay come to hand quicker than expected after the long spell ho had last year.
The two-year-old Oil King, who has been under the care of.J. Gray for the past few months, has been sent to Mr. J. C. Gleeson's property at Olahuhu, ■ where he is to be indulged in a spell. Oil Kins showed floms promise when he won at To Rapa early in the season, but he has not come on as well as expected in the meantime and his latest efforts have been disappointing. The youngster possesses a nice turn of "speed and may make amends , when he comes in again. as he lias not been overtaxed and should come back with renewed vigour after his holiday.
WELLINGTON NOTES,

[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN COH RESPONDENT. WELLINGTON, Thursday.
