MINERS ALARMED.
AVENUE OF EMPLOYMENT. DOOR LIABLE TO BE CLOSED. (Received March 20, 12.45 a.m.) SYDNEY, Mar. 19. The chairman of the Northern Collieries Proprietors' Association warns strikers who now refuse to work that they will lose their employment in the mines permanently. Mr. Mac Donald says the owners will reopen the mines at their discretion, but sufficient men are already available for some of the large pits. A report from Newcastle says the owners' decision is causing alarm among miners who have not already applied for work. Also, they are perturbed to learn that the trades union movement cannot provide the large levies recently imposed on their behalf by the Trades Union Congress at Melbourne. The Miners' Officials' Convention sitting at Sydney has decided to invite the Prime Minister, Mr. J. H. Scullin, the Treasurer, Mr. E. G. Theodore, and the Attor-ney-General, Mr. F. Brennan, to attend the convention in order to make a final appeal to them to intervene against the mineowners.
